Courtesan – Realms of Quest V

One of the new classes for player characters in Realms of Quest V is the Courtesan.  Courtesans are able to seduce humanoid type monsters for the purpose of recruiting them into your party as an ally that will fight with you against the monsters that you battle. Besides being able to fight monsters in your characters stead, ally’s are also useful in that if a monster attacks your courtesan character, the ally will be the one to take the HP damage and will fight with/for your Courtesan until death. The courtesan will not take any damage from enemy monsters until the the courtesan’s ally has exhausted all HP’s and has been defeated. Courtesans should have high Charisma in order to be effective at seducing.

Here is a listing of all humanoid type monsters that a courtesan might be able to seduce so be on the lookout for any of the following types of monsters…

In the battle above there is a humanoid monster group (4 Troglodytes), so we will attempt to have our courtesan (Alisha) seduce one of the Trogs. The Troglodytes have 3 Swing attacks, and 1 Stun attack per the charts above.

Our courtesan attempts to seduce

Now we select the monster group that Alisha will attempt seduction

Success!!

Woohoo! Alisha has successfully seduced a Troglodyte and it will now fight for our party as an ally of Alisha!

Inspecting Ally in the courtesan’s player character screen

The Troglodyte now appears as an Ally on Alisha’s player characters statistics screen. The Troglodyte has 3 regular melee attacks of Swing and 1 special attack of Stun which if successful will eliminate 1 enemy monster upon each successful Stun attack. Now that the Trog is an ally, during Alisha’s next round she can have the ally attack on her behalf. First the courtesan chooses which monster group the ally will attack. We will choose to have the Trog attack the Ropers. If the ally kills an enemy monster, the kill is recorded as being the courtesan’s kill for advancing/leveling up purposes.

The Troglodyte successfully stuns a Roper.

The stun attack removes 1 Roper from battle. When monsters are taken out, they are not killed, just removed from battle but at least it is 1 less monster to have to deal with. For leveling up purposes it is better to have monsters killed that way there is a chance that the player character might level up.

Here our ally Troglodyte uses a swing attack at an enemy monster.  From looking at the charts above, it would be very useful if a courtesan player character seduced one of the more tougher humanoid monsters such as a Titan, or Storm Giant or Fire Giant as they have Death / Fire attacks which would come in mighty handy in battle.

Above is the Troglodyte from “Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger”. A great fantasy adventure movie with animation by the late and great Ray Harryhausen.

Ghost Ship – Realms of Quest II

ghostship_enhanced

When traveling the overworld map, close to one of the numerous rivers, I came across a ghost ship! There are other encounters along the rivers, where you may run into mermen and the famed loch ness monster.

After some extensive battling in one of the dunjons, I encountered another Orcus, however I was defeated. I stayed in the dunjons for as long as I could, reaching level 9 and even a few levels below and acquired a hoard of gold, and a whole lot more of +1 magical items. The lower you descend in the dunjons, the more gold and magic items you acquire.

$2707547 Gold Pieces. More GP than I had Experience Points. Sword+14, Armor+19, Shield+17.

I didn’t obtain a 2nd orb yet, but at least I knew I would be cashing in big time, this time around.

Up 2 levels +1 potion. The extra 2 spell points and additional Hit Points will help out allot.

Orb #2 Demons+Demon Brides -RoQIII

In the dungeon across the river bridge the party descended to the 15th level, fighting many dragons, medusae and queen xorns along the way.

At the lowest level the Demons and their Demon Brides await!

Having more than 1 priest (or a priest + necromancer combination helps out allot when fighting demons, for their holy symbol, excommunication, and exorcism spells)

The demon brides manage to slay Twiggy! but the remaining crew survived.

Two orbs recovered, and six more left to find.

In the dungeons we also discovered a Ring of Wizardry! This ring reduces the cost of casting WIZARD spells by one spell unit (per spell).

Lineup change in the Realms of Quest III

Here is my Realms of Quest III lineup as I had left it, prior to my diversion into a start to end play-through of Realms of Quest IV and Ultimate Quest: Catacomb, and half-way march through Realms of Quest I.

roq3_onwards

Crumm – Ogre Fighter
Brute – Ogre Monk
Greenhat – Gnome Priest
Mead – Orc Fighter
Ruby – Hobbit Thief
Twiggy – Elf Wizard

The above lineup worked well from the start of the game up until now.

To make RoQIII dungeon crawling easier, I’ve decided to replace Brute (Ogre Monk), with a Necromancer.

The Necromancer class in RoQIII is essentially a Priest/Wizard class. 1st level Necromancers cannot cast any spells.
In order to gain the ability to cast spells as a Necromancer, you need to train to level 2, and in order to train you must make kills in combat.
I had initially made a Necromancer character at the start of the game but during initial gameplay with the rest of my team of level 1 characters, getting a Necromancer to make kills in battle was tough.
Even my fighters struggled to survive each battle, early on.
Now that my team has higher HP’s, better equipment, some magical items, and is able to defeat tougher monsters that pull in higher amounts of XP’s per kill, bringing in a Necromancer at this point in time is much easier.

Here are a couple of items I found while dungeon crawling that aided in getting my Necromancer to make kills in combat.

Boots of Elvenkind – When worn, these boots give the wearer the ability to have an additional round of attack during battle.
Potion of Giant Strength – Drink this potion in battle to gain the strength of Giants.

Greyhat managed to kill a few of these Ropers. Ropers give +5000XP per kill and now that he has trained a few levels can cast Wizard (Fireball!) and Priest spells also. Now that Greyhat can cast some decent offensive spells, I’ve traded the boots and potion back to Ruby.

Plus Mead found a +8 Crossbow! YEah! Make sure to buy arrows at the armory.

My current lineup is

Crumm – Ogre Fighter
Greenhat – Gnome Priest
Mead – Orc Fighter
Twiggy – Elf Wizard
Ruby – Hobbit Thief
Greyhat – Gnome Necromancer

Time Lord #8 -RoQIV

Iscreem stared at the flourescent orange door that stood before him. The door glowed intensely as did the orange key that the kobold clutched in his scrawny little hand. A feeling of dread overwhelmed him as he inserted the glowing key into the doors lock. Something evil lurked behind the door. Iscreem was sure of that. After turning the key, the kobold backed away from the door. “After you my spellcasting friends.” Iscreem said with a smirk on his face.

Greenhat also sensed the evil and stepped through the doorway, leading the party with his silver cross in his hand. Evil shadowy figures lurked about in the darkness. “Demons!” the gnome shouted. The gnome chanted a holy prayer and burned the demon’s flesh with his holy symbol.

Ruby read the runes from her spellbook, causing a rift in time, slowing enemies and giving the party extra rounds of attack. “Time is on our side now, evil Time Lord!” the hobbit sage shouted.

“Let the power of Mordenkais sword stab at thee!” Twiggy screamed, as the glowing blue enchanted sword of Mordenkais appeared from out of the darkness.

Iscreem took hold of the glowing sword and swung it mercilessly at the Time Lord, hacking and slicing the evil lord to shreds.

Sammy and Crumm took turns pummeling and thrashing the Time Lord, and Elvira lunged at him from behind with piercing daggers and raging fury.

Sammy took the last swing to finish off the evil time lord. “Another day, another death!” the elf said as she pierced her sword and stung the time lord through his heart, ending his miserable and wretched life.

From the vile corpse of the time lord, Iscreem pulled a ring off the evil lord’s finger and placed it onto his own.

An intense wave of strength overpowered the kobold. The ring disintegrated and left Iscreem with a newfound sense of strength.

Wraith – RoQIV

wraith

Stumbled upon some wraiths today…

Wraiths are undead creatures. Stats and attacks are as follows.

Level 8 / Hit Points 15-120 / AC 0 / #AT 2 / Damage 1-15 / Attacks 1+2= Swing, Attack 3 = Summon, Attack 4 = Death

2nd level Priest spell, “Exile the Undead” is effective against wraiths, killing up to a row of the creatures.

exile_undead_wraith

wraith_dies

4th level Priest spell “Control Undead” is also effective at luring the wraiths. Control spells let you gain control of an enemy to make attacks on your behalf during combat.

1st level “Turn the Undead” (might) be effective but I didn’t get the chance to test it during this battle. Next time I run into a wraith, I’ll update this post with results of the “Turn the Undead” spell against the eerie and spooky looking wraiths.

The Orange Key -RoQIV

To reach the inner chambers of the eighth level, the party descended one of the numerous pits leading to a hidden room which Gnarshm had marked in the center of his map.

The hidden room was full of short waterlogged passages which seemed to go nowhere in particular until Elvira spotted a neatly disguised lever at the end of one of the passages.

Upon pulling the lever, the wall to the north gave way leading to a secret room containing a pedestal. On top of the pedestal, a sparkling key seemed to glow a flourescent orange which reflection shone down upon a cold and flooded room.

Iscreem’s boots slushed and trudged through the water as he walked the length of the room to take the key off the pedestal.

Before Iscreem’s outstretched hand could grasp hold of the key, Elvira shouted in warning. “Wait! It could be a trap. Everyone be still for a moment. I think I hear something.”

“I hear something too. Whatever it is, its getting louder.” Greenhat replied.

Suddenly the passages shook and a large thunderous wall of water came racing down the passage towards the adventurers. “A ton of water! Quick! Grab the key.” Gnarshm shouted as the sheer force of the water knocked the gnoll off his feet.

waterelhits

The kobold’s hand clasped the orange key. He barely had time to turn and brace himself when the wall of water smashed into Iscreem, knocking the key out of his hand and back into the water.

As Iscreem again reached for the key, the water changed shape lashing out at the warrior with a set of enormous fangs.

“Water elements! there are elementals in the water!” the kobold shouted as he slashed and cut with his sword.

“The water level is rising!” Sammy yelled in alarm.

waterelsummon

“If the water level rises any further we’re gonna be drowning in our metal armors.” Iscreem said as he unhooked his plate mail and tossed it into the water, then dove into the water to retrieve the glowing orange key.

“I’ll fix this.” Twiggy said as she began an incantation while reading from her book of spells.  A giant ball of fire formed about the ceiling, then came searing down scortching the water, evaporating much of it. Within seconds the room was filled with steam making it near impossible to see.

Iscreem’s voice echoed through the steaming room. “I’ve got the key! Now let’s get out of here.” he shouted victoriously after defeating the last of the water elements.
